Спустя две недели после релиза MMORPG New World ситуация с обзорами в Steam немного выровнялась. Количество отзывов превысило 104 000 и 71% из них положительные. При беглом взгляде уже можно увидеть настоящие недостатки и плюсы новинки, а не те, которые преследуют каждую ММО на старте.
В недавних рецензиях многие хвалят PvP и отсутствие какой-либо автоматизации в игровом процессе, а некоторые сравнивают New World с World of Warcraft на старте. Есть и забавные обзоры, указывающие на соревновательный аспект проекта.
Что касается недостатков, то ругают слабый лор и «мир, лишенный азарта и души», а также утомительную прокачку уровня.

Местом действия игры является Северная Америка XVII века, период колонизации. На фоне средневекового фэнтези и других традиционных сеттингов, подобный подход кажется необычным и заманчивым. В игре реализованы меняющиеся времена года, система погоды и динамический суточный цикл. К слову, все из этих аспектов очень важны, особенно цикл день / ночь, поскольку в разное время суток разные враги.
Ещё одной важной деталью являются осады и ПвП. Поскольку форты разных кланов встречаются повсеместно, а игроков на серверах присутствует от 500 человек, то грабёж является обычным делом. Причём после смерти колонистов можно забрать весь лут в инвентаре, однако все вещи на персонажах сохранятся.
Из технологий, за техническую часть отвечает движок Lumberyard, а за возможности серверов уникальная облачная технология Amazon. Как заявляют разработчики, она позволяет масштабировать мир в зависимости от числа игроков, а также делать его сложнее и естественнее. Поэтому если вы задумали покорить целый остров, а на нём помимо вас проживает ещё 500 человек, то эта задача будет по силам лишь самым мощным и многочисленным кланам.
По словам разработчиков, главным ограничением являются лишь ваши амбиции. New World уже отправилась в релиз и распространяется по модели buy-to-play, то есть единоразовая покупка. Игроки платят фиксированную цену, заходят на сервера и играют. Также авторы не планируют вводить лутбоксов, элементов pay-to-win и брать плату за дополнительный контент.
