Theatre of Tragedy были основаны в 1993 году и первоначальный состав группы выглядел следующим образом: Хайн Фроде Хансен - ударные, Лоренц Аспен - клавишные, Эйрик Т. Сальтре - бас, Пол Бьостад - гитара, Томми Линдал - гитара, Лив Кристин - вокал, Раймон Иштван Рохони -вокал.
В таком составе в 1994 году было записано первое демо. Интересным фактом является то, что группа исполняет свои песни не на современном Английском языке, а на старом.
Альбом " Theatre of Tragedy " получился очень хорошим, для меня он входит в тройку лучших альбомов группы.
Если кто-то из читателей знает на каком языке они поют на этом альбоме, то напишите, пожалуйста. Я расхожусь во мнениях между Норвежским и Немецким
Несмотря на всю красоту альбома, музыка не является такой уж сложной, особенно партии гитар, это сугубо моё мнение.
В 1998 году происходит выход ещё одного прекрасного альбома - " Aégis ", у которого есть определённая тематика. На альбоме идёт повествование о женщинах из мифов и легенд, в основном Греческих.
Альбом " Aégis " в отличие от своих двух предшественников обладает более мелодичным и эмоциональным звучанием. Так же, если раннее группа совмещала Death/Doom и Gothic Metal, то на данном альбоме больший упор делается на чистый Gothic Metal и Gothic Rock.
Следующий альбом " Musique " выходит спустя два года, в 2000 году. Лучше бы не выходил. Группу стало не узнать. Появилась какая-то электронщина индустриалитятина и т.д., одним словом какая-то ерунда. Слишком резкий рывок они сделали в электронику. Не злитесь на меня, если наши мнения не совпадают, просто я не люблю музыку подобного типа.
В 2002 году выходит альбом, который так же как и " Musique " состоит из электронщины. Данный альбом стал последним, в котором на вокале была Лив Кристин.
В 2006 году выходит " Storm ", на котором они решили вернуть старое звучание, но и от нововведений они не отказывались. После ухода Лив Кристин новой вокалисткой группы стала Нелл Сигланд, которая не плохо поёт, но до уровня Лив не дотягивает.
В 2009 году происходит выход последнего альбома - " Forever Is the World ". В " Forever Is the World " Theatre of Tragedy вновь вернулись к старому стилю - Gothic Metal/Rock. К большому сожалению материал не порадовал многих критиков.

Does anyone know what the deal is with tracks A3-B1? Why are they labeled "(Mix)"? Are they a different mix than on the other versions of the album? Is there anything different about them at all?

With this second album, the band evolved from the simple concept of melting doom metal with romantic music towards a more complex music.
Keeping the key elements defining their first album, Velvet Darkness they Fear integrates symphonic elements as well as influences from gothic rock.
The songs are more mature, songwriting sounds more confident.
This album also will allow the band to do a breakthrough in Germany through the hit single Der Tanz der Schatten, entirely sung in german.
