22 окт. 2013 в 3:20

I get the same message, and ive tried to installed the unofficial patch but i get a message that say i cant install the patch under that directory in this windows (win 8). So i tried to reinstall the game, but then steam wont allow me to choose what folder it should be placed in.. It just wants to install the game in the steamfolder. So i tried to copy the files to another folder, but then i got just the same message as before.. I dont know what to do now.

And the most annoying thing is that Fallout 2 worked fine the day that i installed it.

EDIT: There is a sullution that worked for me further down in the forum..

Ошибка при запуске мода

Всем привет.
Вот захотелось попробовать мод, да вот незадача такая — после установки при запуске F2 выскакивает ошибка: "Fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode".

Fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode что это

27 дек. 2012 в 12:22 Fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode I recently got a new computer, which is running windows 8. When I first downloaded Fallout 2, it worked fine, it even didn't have the annoying rainbow graphics issue it did on windows 7. when I went to play it again, it said it appeared to all ready be running in compatibility mode. Any body know how to fix this? 27 дек. 2012 в 14:35 I got the same error. I installed SFALL (a mod) which apparently didn't work, uninstalled it and magically Fallout 2 started working again. Seriously. 28 дек. 2012 в 1:44 28 дек. 2012 в 2:20 28 дек. 2012 в 16:36 29 дек. 2012 в 0:23 19 янв. 2013 в 6:53 19 янв. 2013 в 6:57 27 мая. 2013 в 11:22 I downloaded every patch i could think of including sfall. and i still get the same error. i played it for 2 minutes, saved, and then quit to take a nap. When i got back, i got the message. I'm Running on Windows 8 on some 1,600 dollar gaming computer i got for chritsmas. It shoulden't be a windows 8 problem as i have a game from 1985 running. 27 мая. 2013 в 15:34 26 авг. 2013 в 20:46

I had serious problems with this as well, but eventually solved it. What I did:

1. create a folder for fallout on your desktop.

2. in steam, go to settings, and under the downloads tab, click "steam library folders". Add the new folder as a directory.

3. install fallout 2 to this directory. Do not run fallout 2.

5. Run the patch, making sure that it is pointing to the new directory that you just made, and that when it installs, it is not creating an additional fallout 2 folder within the existing one. It tried to create an additional folder by default for me, so just pay attention.

6. right click on FALLOUT2.exe, located in:

and make sure it is not running in compatibility mode, is not running in reduced color mode, and is running as an administrator.

This solved it for me. Some of the steps might be unnecessary for you, but every single one was for me. I hope this helps some people!

Okay. Like a lot of people on here, I just recently tried to start Fallout 2 for the first time. I continually got the message that Fallout 2 was running in compatibility mode. I have read several posts from other users having the same problem, and other persons posting how to solve it, and more still asking for step by step instructions on how to do it. So, I'm going to try to explain what I did. Feel free to reply.

DO NOT RUN IT YET. If you do, when you get to the part about where to install it and try to install it where Fallout 2 is located in your Steamapps, you will get a pop-up saying that it cannot change your program files without possibly damaging your computer.

Instead, what you are going to do next is locate the Fallout 2 folder in steamapps on your hard drive. It should be located someplace like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common.
It may not be drive C on your computer, that will depend on where drive is your hard drive(and which hard drive you have steam installed on in the event you have multiple hard drives on your computer.
Now, you are going to right click the folder that says Fallout 2 and select cut. Next, go to your drives and right click on the icon for your hard drive and select paste. This should move your Fallout 2 folder to the first level of of your hard drive (i.e. you should be able to see the folder on the first list of folders that appear when you double click your hard drive's icon).

Next, you are going to run the Fallout 2 Restoration Project (version 2.2), Windows Installer, which should be located in your downloads. When you get to the screen that asks you to select your destination folder, you can either click browse and find the folder in your hard drive. If you have selected it correctly, it should look something like this in the box:
C:\Fallout 2
Just finish running the installer and wait for all of the files to download/extract. After it has finished, go to your harddrive, right click on your Fallout 2 folder and select cut, again.

Finally, go back to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps and right click the folder that says common, and select paste. This should put it back into steam and et you launch the game from Steam as you normally would. If you have any questions, feel free to post. I apologize if this sounds too patronizing, but I wanted to make this as simple as possible for persons who are not adept at computers. For those who are curious, I am using Windows 8. Most of this should be even simpler if you are using Windows 7.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them in the forum thread I made with this same title. If you like the guide, please don't hesitate to promote it or send me a friend invite.
