In Legend of the Phoenix, the player takes the role of a young woman who finds herself reborn after having been murdered by her spouse, the Crown Prince. Given a chance to get revenge on her would-be murderer, she joins the Imperial Palace as a lowly maid, and starts gathering allies - and making enemies - as she works her way up the hierarchy.

The central plot is primarily told through the Story mode, but confidants also have their own stories, told through dates and letters. It's worth noting that these do not tie into the main plot, though a few confidants appear as key players in the latter.

Sometimes during stories, the player is given a choice of what to say or do. These choices never impact the actual progression of the story, and the player can always go back and view the alternate versions.

Each chapter is composed of six parts, each of which ends with a "battle" which has to be won before the player can progress to the next. For more information about the gameplay, see Story (Gameplay).

Ученый советник

Ученым советником может стать ваш Воспитанник, не вступивший в брак и имеющий ранг Императорский ученый и выше.

Ученым советником может быть только один воспитанник! Купить дополнительные слоты нельзя.

Когда вы впервые зайдете в кабинет, вам будет предложено выбрать Воспитанника, который станет вашим Ученым советником. Как только вы сделаете выбор, начинается квест-обучение. Обучение довольно долгое и занимает несколько недель, хотя успешное выполнение различных головоломок и мини-игр может сократить время ожидания.

После прохождения всех этапов квеста Воспитанник появляется в разделе с другими Помощниками, где вы можете точно также повышать его уровень, дарить Фрукты потенциала, Книги и Наборы роста.

Однако, Ученый советник не может обучаться в Академии, вместо этого он будет продолжать свои Путешествия (подробнее — далее).

Внешность Ученого советника зависит от места, занятого им на имперских экзаменах.

The Cabinet allows players to promote one of their foster children into a partner. It can be accessed through the Map screen once the player has one child that is an imperial scholar or higher.

Gameplay Overview

Adult, unmarried foster children with a rank of Imperial Scholar or higher are eligible for recommendation to the cabinet. The first time the player does this, the son or daughter will undergo training by travel. The training is quite extensive and will take several days, though the successful completion of various puzzles and minigames may shorten the waiting times somewhat.

Once the training has been completed, the foster child will join the player as a partner, and can be cultivated in terms of attributes etc. in exactly the same way as regular partners.

Travel

As soon as the player recommends a young scholar to the cabinet, they begin travelling, visiting different provinces where they aid the people in various challenges.

  • Shuntian Province
  • Kaifeng Province
  • Guilin Province
  • Chengdu Province
  • Quanzhou Province
  • Hangzhou Province
  • Jinan Province

Each location has a map where the scholar will travel back and forth between different local destinations. These journeys take around 8 hours to complete, during which time travel incidents may occur. When that happens, a red dot notification appears on the Cabinet, prompting the player to take a look. Handling incidents requires no gameplay, they merely entail a short story note, after which the player receives a reward.

Puzzles and minigames

Occasionally during travel the scholar will face some challenge which requires the player to complete a puzzle or play a minigame.

Riddles and mazes

In Shuntian and Quanzhou provinces, the scholar encounters a puzzle that consists of three riddles followed by a maze.

The riddles are based on puns/wordplay, and it may help to read them out loud. Correctly answering riddles gives the player three clues that will help them navigate the labyrinth that follows. The clues are sequences of numbers, where 1 means left, 2 means straight, and 3 means right.

Pitch-pot Master

In Kaifeng and Chengdu (?) provinces, the scholar will need to play pitch-pot. This is essentially the same minigame as that in the Hall of Union, but instead of each pot giving points, the pots need to be hit in a specific order, as indicated by the numbers.

Code locks

In Shuntian and Guilin provinces the scholar encounters coded locks. A clue is given to help the player figure out the number sequence.

Games of chance

In certain provinces the scholar will need to engage in games of chance, such as playing dice or rock-paper-scissors. There is no way for the player to determine the outcome of these minigames.

After the first scholar has completed the cabinet travels and become a partner, players may swap in a different foster child to be their Partner.

This requires a Clearance Document and an unmarried foster child whose potential/attributes are higher than the current cabinet scholar.

Once the new scholar is selected:

  • The initial scholar is returned to the "unmarried" section under the Matchmaker in Phoenix Hall
  • All improvements made to the initial scholar during and after the Cabinet are transferred to the new scholar
    • Example: Authority attribute was raised by 5000. First child goes back to their base stats; new scholar has 5000 Authority added to their own stats

    Touring the provinces

    After the cabinet has been completed once, the scholar can now be sent on tours around the provinces. At the end of each eight-hour tour, the Cabinet Scholar receives a reward of growth points and skill points.

    During their travels they will encounter random "events" which may be handled to gain further rewards, including Partner EXP, Destiny Stones, Fame, Skill Pills, and Silver. Most events require no input from the player, but some include one of the minigames from the first set of travels, with additional rewards granted if completed successfully.

    The game will recommend a province to tour for higher rewards, but the player can elect to travel in any province.

    Scholar Prestige

    In the prestige section of the cabinet, the player can use Prestige Pts earned in Literary Gatherings to improve their partners.

    There are two tiers of prestige; basic and advanced. Basic prestige is noted as attribute specializations, where each level of each specialization raises an attribute by a certain percent. (This is not to be confused with the scholar's overall specialty, noted as "Trait" on the cabinet screen.)

    Advanced prestige improves the potential of all partners with the correct specialty.

    The Academy is a building accessed from the Home screen, where Partners can be sent to study texts. It is unlocked when the player clears Story Chapter 4, and can be reached from the Home screen.

    Gameplay

    One normal study session takes three hours to complete, and awards the selected partner a certain amount of Growth Pts (in all four attribute potentials) and Skill Pts. The amount of points received is determined by the academy level (see Building the Academy below), and can be increased by consuming Assorted Stew. Rewards can also be increased for individual partners by reaching knowledge level 10.

    Studying

    When starting a Study, a partner can be chosen for that seat. Recommended partners will have 100% chance of enlightenment, which is indicated by the REC icon on the upper right corner. Depend on personal preference, the Sort button can be used.

    There are two sorting types, Default sorting and Rec sorting. The applied sorting method is always the opposite of what is shown on the sort button. Default sorting arranges partners based on their level, and then their total attribute. Rec sorting groups the recommended partners (based on specialty), and brings them to the top. Within their groups, they again are organized by the level and the total attribute.

    Once a partner has been set to studying, the player can speed up the completion by spending ingots. The longer the time that is left, the more expensive it is. The number of times this can be done per day increases with higher VIP level.

    Enlightenment

    Each text is associated with one or two partner specialties. This determines the chance of a partner reaching enlightenment while studying the text. Reaching Enlightenment during a study session gives the partner an increased amount of Skill Pts and/or Growth Pts, which is described in the Additional Rewards section.

    • For single attribute texts, any partner that is specialized in that attribute has a 100% chance of reaching enlightenment.
    • If there are two attributes:
      • Partner specialized in both of them will have a 100% chance of enlightenment.
      • Partners specialized in one or the other will have a 80% chance.

      Further Education

      Further Education can be selected when starting a study session. It takes nine hours, consumes one Further Edu. Token, and gives three times the usual reward.

      Seats

      The Academy starts out with one seat. Additional seats can be purchased with gold ingots at increasing cost, allowing several Partners to study simultaneously. Once five seats have been unlocked, the Fast Complete option becomes available.

      Additional academy slots can be unlocked through the Self-motivated skill in Ministry of Works.

      Building the Academy

      The Academy can be upgraded by tapping the Build button at the bottom of the screen. There are two ways to improve the Academy, "Specialty" and "Literary & Military Expertise". Building costs both gold and silver ingots, the cost increasing with level. The Specialty upgrades increase the amount of Skill Pts rewarded for each study session. The Literary & Military Expertise upgrades increase the amount of Growth Pts.

      Each level of academy upgrades require the player to have reached a certain rank.
