I believe that Ultimate Cartel Packs come with various Rep tokens that apply to the Underworld Exchange. They used to be tied to various pack-related reputations, but all of those and their tokens were consolidated into the Underworld Exchange. was it last year?
Basically, the Underworld Exchange is, depending on your view, A; another excuse to buy Cartel Packs to build your rep with it, or B; the consolation prize for not getting anything good from your Cartel Packs. Either way; Cartel Packs.
If you're looking for somewhere to spend your Cartel Market Certificates, though, I believe there's a vendor down in the Strongholds and Crew Skills section of the Fleet that sells decorations that cost CMCs.
That depends upon what Rep it is. Some can still be gotten from doing various quests, etc, and some used to come from specific 'packs' in the CM. I'm not sure where you'd get UeX rep these days.There's a couple of vendors in the Bazaar section of the Fleet that take CMCs + rep. If I recall, there is a decoration vendor in the Strongholds section that takes CMCs but doesn't require reputation.
If you can find a contraband slot machine deco, they reward the rep-boosting item pretty regularly. I found one without too much trouble and got enough widgets to get Legendary in 250k worth of chips.
There is a decoration vendor in the strongholds section that accepts cartel market certificates and does not have a reputation requirement. You may find some decos there you like without having to worry about the rep grind.
As others have said the easiest is using the contraband slot machines decorations. Go to the public stronghold listings on nar shaddaa. Find a 100% one or one listed as a casino in the name. You can buy the tokens from the decoration vendor on the fleet or there might be one near the a lot machine in the stronghold if the owner set it up this way. The one I went to had 3 of those machines right next to each other so you could use 3 machines at once. It took me maybe an hour or so and I bought 300k worth of the tokens. I think I had roughy 30-40 purple, 60ish blue, and 100 or so green rep tokens. It took me a couple weeks but eventually I had legendary status. So just seek out public strong holds and I’m sure someone would’ve set up one that’s like a Casino. Good luck!
Got access to 1st mission of each arc at Newcomer standing (accept missions from the 3 bosses on Dantooine).

Thinking of replacing it with Slicing on my toon, just want to make sure it really is useless before I blow away my 500/500 Underworld Trading.

Definitely not useless.
Needed for any Prototype or Artifact Cybertech, Synthweaving, or Armormech schematics that are not related to Augments. This includes armor (including some unique designs,) earpieces, Armoring, Mods, grenades, (class) ship parts, and speeders. It can also give schematics for these crew skills. However, typically, you only need the Underworld Metals for these things.
It is also needed by every Crafting skill for making Fabricator Designs for Universal Prefabs. This is where the Underworld Fabrics come in. (However, I tend to have a crapload of blue ones, since you only need 4 blue fabrics per purple one and the purple ones are not falling for me.)
Clontarf, Collíns, Pówers, Lócké, Tyrconnell | HarbingerUnderworld gives you missions for gathering blue (and on critical success, purple) metals and fabrics.
If you need Slicing, can you get it on an alt?
All I know is that doonium is giving me a lot of credits.
Slicing is awesome in combination with nearly every mission crew skill.
Is slicing a good money maker?
Just a clarification for me. It is the lock boxes that give missions and not the tech parts right?
Where the synergy really comes in is when you have multiple toons with different crafting and mission skills. Then you can use the adaptive circuitry for crafting purple augments and send those level 500 mission discoveries to your other toons with mission skills (UT, TH, Investigation, Diplomacy). Then use the mats returned from those to craft the purple endgame stuff that sells well (or sell the mats directly).
If you are focusing on one or two toons (with cybertech I assume), I would stick with level 500 UT as you can make a lot of useful things and there will be a good market for doonium.
