Astroneer qbits

It seems really predatory for them to just suddenly add a store with an exclusive currency only attainable by paying money when for as long as the game has been out you get cosmetics by just playing the game.

System Era is using behavioral psychology to pressure players into purchasing:

Shop—not settings—is the first tab in the menu

Middle currency obfuscates the real dollar amounts players are spending

Prices ensure some currency is left over, encouraging additional purchases

Sound is used as positive reinforcement when buying an item, creating a sense of reward

Limited time discounts and rotational stock cause urgency to buy

Premium items are more distinctive designs, leading to social pressure to have an exclusive item

Over 50 new items were added to the shop, but three new items were added for the event

Shop was introduced on stream months ago as "a bundle" to avoid controversy

When any in-game shop is made, it justifies its existence by "supporting developers." However, the increased cash flow will cause the game to change and add new mechanics that support more revenue and monetization—instead of mechanics that support fun gameplay. (See Destiny 2.)

I just noticed that they added this, and boy is it annoying me. Sure, if they wanted to add in something like say, a Cosmetics DLC, clearly labeled on the steam store as such, I would have been fine with that. Heck, if that went on sale, I might have even considered purchasing it. But for them to drop this into the game quietly. Not cool by my book.

While yes, the shop feels a little sketchy, I don’t think they’re going to add any types of monetisation to gameplay. SES has been very clear those whole reason they added cosmetics was an optional way to support the devs, instead of dlc which could split the community, and made it very clear that they were not going to add any gameplay altering micro transactions.

I have hope that SES will realise there mistakes, and lower the prices and reduce the sketchy business practices in future, but it’s not like they can’t just half the prices now because many players such as myself have already bought items at full price.

Saw in the customization screen that you can ‘redeem code’ and I was wondering what that does. Most online stuff says it was PAX thing but uh. obviously I did not attend, don’t think I’d ever have the money anyways. Does anyone know the codes in the game?

Hello all editors and users of the Astroneer Wiki! We are in the process of updating and switching over to use the new Fandom Desktop skin on the wiki. There will be many changes over the coming days, but the main goal is to keep the wiki feeling the same, as much as we can! If you notice any issues once the swap is made, please post them to the Admin Noticeboard so we can address it right away. We are also going to be completing the update to the Astroneer Wiki:Style guide, so there is a more up to date guide on how to style the wiki going forward.

EXO Outfitters is the in-game shop in Astroneer. It allows players to purchase Customization items such as suits, palettes, masks and hats. Players must purchase QBITS from the shop, an in-game currency, to purchase the items.
