Collaboration with Adidas
Adidas and Electronic Arts collaborated to manufacture 100 pairs of limited edition Adidas Original Need for Speed Top X shoes. The protagonist of the game also appears to wear a pair of these shoes.
On October 10, 2011, the first 50 pairs were brought to the Adidas store in Chicago. There was also a special event held by DJ Neil Armstrong and Kids These Days. The initial ten purchasers of the product were be invited to exclusive kick-off events at the stores after a few days.

В очередной раз вышел очередной Need For Speed под названием The Run. Чем же он отличается от предыдущих игр серии и насколько он хорош? Давайте попробуем разобраться с этим в нашем обзоре.
Не знаю чем занималась EA BlackBox последние три года, однако точно не новой частью знаменитого сериала Need For Speed. По сути, за них всю работу сделали парни из DICE со своим движком Frostbite 2.0. Именно он обеспечивает весь тот драйв, который мы чувствуем, садясь за руль автомобиля. Сама игра короткая, по игровому времени (чистому времени каждого заезда) проходится буквально за два часа, но если добавить время на загрузки и переигровки, можно потратить и шесть часов.
Гоночные треки не очень длинные, по 7-14 километров. Разработчики сделали с десяток разношерстных трасс, большинство из которых повторяется, не смотря на различные места действия (особенно «радует» попытка скрыть одну и ту же трассу с помощью дня и ночи). Так что если кто-то думал взаправду проехать все четыре тысячи пятьсот сколько-то там километров от Сан-Франциско до Нью-Йорка — забудьте. От силы в игре 500-600 км дорог.
Закись азота
Игровая механика почти полностью скопирована с уже знакомого Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit — мы по прежнему несемся из точки А в точку Б на огромной скорости, при этом уворачиваясь от дорожного трафика и полиции. Кстати о полиции. Разработчики отказались от шипов, вертолетов и ЭМИ ударов. Не смотря на, это полиция ведет себя агрессивно и иногда может серьезно осложнить пробег по трассе. Закись азота также растет по тем же принципам что и в Hot Pursuit.
Несомненным плюсом является разрушаемость объектов и машин в игре. Конечно, игровые лицензии не позволяют, чтобы у машин отлетали двери, сильно деформировались бока или даже выпадали детали, но, тем не менее, визуально, повреждения машины при столкновении будут хорошо видны, а этим серия Need For Speed нас уже давно не радовала.
Хорошо реализован переход с грунтовой трассы на асфальтированную и различия в управлении супер-каром и, к примеру, маскл-каром. Конечно The Run не претендует на лавры гоночного симулятора, но и полностью аркадным (в отличие от Hot Pursuit) его не назовешь.
Новый движок
Разрушаемости в игре мы конечно обязаны Frostbite 2.0, который, помимо этого, рисует посредственную картинку! Прорисовка дальних объектов — хуже не куда (уровня 2005 года). Как и в Hot Pursuit, почему то отсутствует фильтрация текстур и сглаживание, что также портит картинку. Остается надеется на патч для PC-версии который исправит эти проблемы. Ландшафтный дизайн очень атмосферный — только что мы были в жаркой пустыне, а сейчас уже на гололеде удерживаем машину от заноса и на глазах сельские ландшафты меняются на городские. Определенно, пейзажи NFS: The Run могут соперничать с таковыми у Test Drive Unlimited 2.
Радует и огромное количество различных машин: тут есть и «обычные» авто, суперкары, концепты и многие другие. Сами машины прорисованы очень четко, красиво и превосходят по уровню детализации те, что были в Shift 2: Unleashed. Гоночных режимов в игре не так много: гонки на время с одним или несколькими соперниками, гонки по чекпоинтам также против соперников или на время. Хотя, в саму концепцию данной игры не вписываются привычные нам по серии Need For Speed дрифт и кольцевые гонки.
Сюжет и геймплей
Сюжет в игре есть, он достаточно вменяемый, так что сразу можете начинать прохождение — не пожалеете. Тем более, что в дальнейшем именно оно открывает некоторые редкие машины. Прошедшим основную кампанию разработчики предлагают Серии Состязаний — вот уж где простор! Многие трассы из этой серии не попали в основную кампанию, и пройти их будет очень интересно. Состязания доступны для совместного прохождения как с друзьями по сети через сервис Autolog, так и в одиночку. Взаимосвязь всех гонок в игре велика и поначалу выбор машин невелик — все супер болиды дожидаются, когда Вы пройдете основные трассы на машинах по проще. Определенно, это дает дополнительную мотивацию к старанию пройти каждый заезд на отлично. В любом случае ни одна гонка не оставит Вас равнодушным!
Maximum scripting — так, вкратце можно охарактеризовать каждый заезд в игре. По началу, проходя трассу в первый/второй раз этого не замечаешь, однако стараясь выбить платиновые медали, видишь, что каждое действие в каждой гонке заскриптовано — полиция действует строго определенным образом, строго в одном месте. А спорткар который гнал в паре сотен метров от вас всю гонку — на финише сбавит скорость и услужливо пропустит вас вперед. Агрессивная борьба на трассе — то же не самое разумное действие, поскольку наши соперники могут сколь угодно сильно разбивать свои автомобили — они сразу же продолжат гонку, а пресловутый «кетчуп» заставит их догнать вас за пару километров, несмотря на все старания оторваться подальше.
Need For Speed: The Run очень не однозначная игра. С одной стороны, здесь явно видна лень и халтура разработчиков из EA BlackBox. С другой стороны, ее первое прохождение уж очень сильно напоминает те самые, первые игры в серии Need For Speed. Но это только на один раз, дальше вы заметите скрипты, тригерры, кетчуп и другие радости от программистов EA Black Box. Когда же они научатся чему-нибудь новому? Stage 9
Sam's connections have landed Jack in the presence of Uri, a mechanic for some very high-performance vehicles. Sam has arranged for Jack to take one of Uri's cars that will put him at level pegging with the rivals found in Stage 9.
Jack has to very little time to reach New York City and still a great deal of rivals to overtake. He finds himself zooming across the expressways of Pennsylvania and Interstate 68 of West Virginia before reuniting with the police in the forests of Maryland.
Stage 6
Stage 6 pits Jack against higher performance vehicles as these rivals made it through the Rocky Mountains before the snow storm. The narrow farmland roads of Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota are a speed run across middle North America.
The routes quickly become a series of split second choices with the tight packs of traffic and blind jumps resulting in several close calls for Jack.
Stage 4
Stage 4 opens with Jack going straight to the top of the police wanted list after his entanglement with them in Las Vegas. He has to cover ground in Nevada quickly and rushes out of Las Vegas in the dead of night.
Jack will cross the state of Nevada before the police catch up with him and his rivals in Zion National Park, Utah. It quickly becomes a desperate game of cat and mouse into Colorado and into the snowy clue of what is to come along the Million Dollar Highway.
Stage 2
After driving on the West Coast, passing San Francisco and the Altamont Pass, Jack enters the region of the Yosemite National Park. Jack soon finds a rival with a passion for more than just The Run itself.
Marcus Blackwell wants Jack out of the race and in a body bag after his escape from the crusher. He will do whatever he can at any point he can with his signature Aston Martin One-77.

Reception
Overall, the game has received mixed reviews but also gained critical acclaim.
Stage 3
Stage 3 begins as Jack enters Death Valley and ends in Las Vegas.
Jack has to race through a sand storm with severely reduced visibility in the centre of the lifeless Death Valley. He will also encounter Nikki and Mila as well as the highway police.
Reaching Las Vegas becomes all too real for Jack as he has to ditch his car after being nearly busted at a police roadblock. He's given a new goal; 50th position at Chicago.
Stage 10
Stage 10 has Jack making his way to the front of the pack with the police closing in on him and his many rivals. Pennsylvania and New Jersey are in his way as he makes his final approach towards the east coast.
Jack faces off against Marcus Blackwell through the congested streets of Downtown New York City, the interconnected subway and the crowded dock yards.
Need for Speed: The Run is the 18th title in the Need for Speed series developed by EA Black Box with the Wii and 3DS releases being developed by Firebrand Games.
The game was released on November 15, 2011 in North America, on November 17, 2011 in the United Kingdom, and November 18, 2011 in Europe.
A demo of the game featuring the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 18, 2011.
Online services were shut down on August 31, 2021.

Facebook features an application for Autolog of Need for Speed: The Run.
Stage 8
Stage 8 joins Jack as he tries to leave ruined Downtown Chicago and cross the remainder of Illinois with the Mob hot on his trail. Audi vehicles are Jack's only option.
The highways of Ohio get Jack back into The Run but the Mob has Jack in their sights and don't let up their aggression towards him. He has only one goal now; reach New York City in first place or lose it all.
The Mob push and push against Jack with him eventually being forced from his pursuit of first place in Cleveland, Ohio. The events in Cleveland's industrial district work in Jack's favour with Sam's connections giving him a final chance for victory.

Limited Edition
The Limited Edition release of Need for Speed: The Run features three exclusive vehicles; the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (2010) and the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S (991).
Players can also unlock access to five additional Challenge Series events that have been designed for the exclusive three Limited Edition vehicles.

Challenge Series Bonuses
Pre-orders for Need for Speed: The Run came with special bonuses although these differ by retailer and edition ordered. The pre-order bonuses were only available for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 releases of Need for Speed: The Run.
The Underground and Most Wanted Challenge Series can be obtained through pre-order at different participating retailers. The Carbon Challenge Series can only be obtained through pre-ordering the title on EA's Origin Store.

Stage 1
Stage 1 opens with Jack duct taped to the steering wheel of a Porsche 911 Carrera S that is being hoisted and dropped into a crusher by a crane.
Jack successfully escapes from the crusher and steals an Audi RS4 as he attempts to escape from The Mob. The Mob notices him and promptly pursues Jack. The pursuit ends when Jack crosses the railway before being involved in a collision with a train.
Jack meets long-time friend Sam Harper in a Chinese restaurant. As they begin to discuss Jack's troubles with the Mob it becomes clear that Jack and Sam both grew up together in the same neighbourhood.
Calvin Garrett walks past the two and this prompts Sam to let Jack know of a means of escaping his debt with the Mob. They head around back where they see Mila Belova leaving with her Run equipment.
Sam places a briefcase in a dumbwaiter lift which is then hoisted and returned back down with the case being replaced with a tablet device. The tablet is encoded with the route of The Run.
Jack heads to his garage in San Francisco and chooses a car to enter The Run with. The Police begin to shut down San Francisco and stop any racer from leaving the city as Jack makes his way to the start line of The Run at Nob Hill.
Jack has to reach 150th position upon reaching Las Vegas but must first leave San Francisco before the police close the Golden Gate Bridge. The long drive begins across the state of California.
Soundtrack
The Nintendo Wii and 3DS release of Need for Speed: The Run features remixed versions of soundtracks from the previous games unlike the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC releases.

Stage 7
Stage 7 is Jack's assault on Chicago and his desperate bid to reach position 50 before reaching the city. Jack has to fight off several rivals during his approach on Chicago through Wisconsin and Illinois.
The country roads leading to the Kennedy Expressway are dense and technical with little room for driver error. Jack's time along the expressway attracts the attention of the Mob and ultimately their attempt on his life in Lower Wacker, Chicago.
Gameplay
An XP system is utilised in Need for Speed: The Run in a similar manner as seen in Shift 2: Unleashed and Hot Pursuit. XP points can be obtained by performing car stunts, overtaking racers and instances of dangerous driving. These points are required to raise the player's driver level and unlock new game content.
Locations
Need for Speed: The Run features a variety of terrain that will affect the performance and gameplay that players will experience. This includes asphalt, dirt, snow, ice, fog, dust storms, and avalanches.

Similar to Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, most events seen in Need for Speed: The Run are Sprint Races. There are also Checkpoint Race events. The game also features Battle Races, which are technically alike to Sprints, as well as Rival Races, which involves in the player competing with particular racers of Need for Speed: The Run. In some events of the game, gas stations can be found, where the player can swap and visually modify their vehicle.

Stage 5
Stage 5 opens with Jack running in the midst of a tight pack of racers along the icy and slippery Interstate 70. The snow proves to be the biggest enemy as Jack covers ground in Colorado.
The rivals start to push Jack to breaking point along the dangerous mountain roads as they climb higher and higher towards the inhospitable peaks. Jack reaches the summit of the Rocky Mountains in central Colorado and is faced with a conflict; turn back or risk it all along a closed highway.
The decision is made for him as a rival nearly runs him down and drives onto the closed highway. Jack has to beat the rival and make it to the other side of Independence Pass.

Если промолчать про снова отсутствующий тюнинг, то The Run получась довольно неплохой. Здесь присутствует кое-какой сюжет и есть понятная цель — пересечь США и обогнать всех соперников. Но самое впечатляющее — это окружение. Во время игры мы проедем по занесенным песком дорогам в пустыне, по снежным вершинам гор, мимо рек и водопадов. И это лишь небольшая часть, ведь здесь как-никак целая страна во всем своем многообразии.
Картинка хоть и выглядит потрясающе, но при близком рассмотрении можно найти довольно много недостатков. Музыку в игре расслышать очень трудно, даже на максимальной громкости, но она все же отлично подходит. У серии проблем с саундтреком практически не бывает.
The Run — очень красивая и увлекательная игра, но, как теперь заведено в серии Need For Speed, с ворохом недостатков.
PS3-версия
The Run завлекала своей идеей — промчать на крутых автомобилях через США. Неудивительно, что эта же идея стала основой для полнометражного фильма по мотивам NFS спустя три года. Однако, как оказалось, это всего лишь «развитая» версия «блэк-листа». Почему «развитая»? Да потому что количество водителей, которые хоть отдалённо тянут на отдельных персонажей, не достигает и десяти, что уже меньше, чем в «блэк-листе». Сюжет под стать действу — неинтересная завязка, полное равнодушие к происходящему на экране (главный герой — не персонаж, а просто муляж за рулём авто в буквальном и переносном смыслах), банальная концовка.
Тогда, возможно, было чертовски увлекательно ездить и получать наслаждение от процесса? Отнюдь! Геймплейно игра очень слаба, тюнинга здесь нет, полицейские седаны почему-то обгоняют суперкары (да и поезда метро развивают здесь больше 200 км/ч!), ДТП нередко случается даже при небольшом касании… Этот список можно продолжать: отсутствие баланса, провальные попытки сделать из игры боевик, лишние QTE, отвратительная реализация систем смены автомобилей и начисления очков…
Отдельно об игровом мире. Не смотря на попытку сделать его разнообразным, он получился очень скучным. Нередко случается, что проезжая новый этап возникает ощущение, что ты проходил подобный поворот или отрезок чуть ранее. Момент в конце игры, когда в напряжении проходишь финишный отрезок, удирая от копов, а в следующем заезде — повторно его же в начале гонки, уже так не удивляет, но выглядит всё равно глупо.
Саундтрек к любой NFS всегда был сродни виду искусству. В этой части не запомнилась НИ ОДНА песня. Да и вообще, если бы музыки не было вовсе, внимания вряд ли бы кто обратил.
Игра максимум на одно прохождение, которое и так не вызовет никаких позитивных впечатлений.
Career
The Run is a race across North America from San Francisco to New York City. 200 of the best racers compete against each other with the first to cross the finish line being awarded $25,000,000.
The Career Mode of the game is divided into ten stages. Each stage of the Career Mode follows a series of events though an area of North America. The first stage of The Run starts in San Francisco on the West coast with the last stage taking place in New York City on the East coast.
The story is set in a similar style to the 1981 film The Cannonball Run.
Vehicles
Vehicles in Need for Speed: The Run are divided into performance tiers and fitted with visual modifications. These pre-tuned vehicles are branded as special edition vehicles, namely Signature Edition and NFS Edition vehicles. Compared to their stock counterparts, they are performance tuned and often ranked in higher tiers.
Customisation
In Need for Speed: The Run, players can equip body kits on to their vehicles and also paint the vehicles. There are cosmetic body kits known as Style Pack kits and Aero Pack kits. Visual customisation can be performed in gas stations and in the View Cars mode.

The PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 releases of Need for Speed: The Run are rated 16+ (PEGI), PG (ACB) and T (ESRB). The Wii and 3DS releases are rated as 7+ (PEGI), E10+ (ESRB) and G (ACB).
Challenge Series
The player can unlock a category of events within the Challenge Series by completing a stage within the Career Mode.
Each category in the Challenge Series contains a series of events that are based on courses, events, circumstances and obstacles featured in the corresponding Career Mode stage.
The player is awarded medals and unlocks based on their performance within each event.
The demo takes place along Death Valley National Park (Desert Hill) in Nevada, where Jack has to overtake ten opponents. Another event takes place along Independence Pass (Summit) in Colorado where Jack competes against the driver of an Audi R8.
