Cooperation mode could be an interesting way to renew the player(s) strategy options.

24 окт. 2014 в 7:31 Nope.avi.I dont think hotline miami is a good game for co-op.. maybe some multiplayer..I have played some game.. I think his name was Stick wars.. it was awesome(hm style).. but i can't see Hotline miami to be a coop game. 24 окт. 2014 в 8:52 24 окт. 2014 в 9:18 Why all the bashing on co-op, it'd be great as a feature. Aslong as it keeps a 250m distance from story progression at all times.
I would very much love to hear your reasons for thinking that. 24 окт. 2014 в 18:50 how to play Co op in hotline miami, everytime you die, you friend punches you in the throat. 24 окт. 2014 в 19:29 It's so nice to see that the community is so helpful with discussion. 25 окт. 2014 в 0:46 Playing as Alex & Ash is playing co-op mode with yourself. There's your co-op. 25 окт. 2014 в 2:42

I think the reason why so many - myself included - do not think co-op would be very enjoyable in Hotline Miami is that it would be difficult to take what is so great about the single player experience and make it co-op.

What is so great about Hotline Miami lies in setting up your plan for each section of the map, and if possible trying to land combos. The only way this could work in a co-op setting is if score multipliers were shared, which I don't feel would be as satisfying.

There is also the matter of player movement on screen. What if one wants to go ahead? Does the other disappear from the screen (like Tails in the old-school Sonic series)? Or is the player who wishes to progress held back from progressing on the screen until the other catches up like so many games? Neither scenario sounds appealing, but admittedly, both scenarios assume local co-op. So let's assume the co-op is online (something we're seeing less and less of in indie games), how would that work? Both players race to rush the same enemy? I guess it could kind of work in a scenario where-in there are two enemies or two clusters of enemies on opposite sides, and each players takes out a side's threats. But to me, that just doesn't sound fun, would get repetetive, and would defeat the purpose (in my opinion) of Hotline Miami and co-op gaming in general.

And then there is the whole death thing. If one player dies, do both of you restart or just that player? The "Die, Press R, and repeat until success" mentality is what makes completing a level in Hotline Miami so satisfying. The idea of players either being able to continue because the other is still alive takes the fun and challenge out, and having to restart each time someone dies (and death can come quite quickly in Hotline Miami) doesn't sound much fun, either.

Just my opinions on the matter. You may disagree, and that is fine.

I agree with what you say, but I think these problems you mention can be dealt with if done right.

Bigger maps with multiple entre and exit points, would allow both players to plan their individuals attack

Player's movement on screen as you said, could be done by each player having their own screen and so own field of view.

With multiple entre points and more labyrinth based maps players would have multiple ways of winning and so making the game less repetitive.

When one dies the other could continue to he died or won the map. When both died the map would restart.
Dying would still be an obstacle as players would be dependent on each other, but one player would still be capable of winning the level without the other, that would just be a harder challenge.
Ways of respawning your friend could also be made possible (check points, first aid, magical respawn wells or whatever) if necessary, that would really just be a question of balancing things out if you ask me.

Thanks for your opinion on the matter, the first comment in this debate I enjoyed reading.

You know, I actually thought of something similar as a means of implementing multiplayer, but I sort of ruled it out because this kind of co-op I don't usually find enjoyable. It reminds me of those sections in Gears of War and Resident Evil 5/6 when you and your partner would split up momentarily. I think the reason why I feel this way is because this kind of co-op only feels like co-op by technicality. It's basically a dual single player experience with a mild symbiotic relationship between the players at this point. It's not a bad idea, but I don't think it's something I would want in Hotline Miami, personally. Nuclear Throne is somewhat similar to Hotline Miami to a point and that has co-op (local only, though), so that may be something you want to check out.

Об этой игре

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is the brutal conclusion to the Hotline Miami saga, set against a backdrop of escalating violence and retribution over spilled blood in the original game. Follow the paths of several distinct factions – each with their own questionable methods and uncertain motivations – as unforeseen consequences intersect and reality once again slips back into a brilliant haze of neon and bloodshed.

Blistering combat against punishing opposition will require intense focus as new variables, weapons, and methods of execution are introduced throughout the struggle. Let the striking colors of an unmistakable visual style wash over as you meticulously cut down those that would stand between you and the ultimate meaning behind the massacre. This is the finale, this is the unquestionable end.

Relentless Hostilities: Adjust combat techniques as the narrative shifts between factions and brings unique variations to a familiar approach along with new weapons, movements, and melee attacks.

Enthralling Soundtrack: Over forty pounding tracks from dozens of artists punctuate the savage conflict and bring the larger scale of your actions into focus. New artists join returning favorites like M|O|O|N, Perturbator, Jasper Byrne, Scattle, and El Huervo for an incredible audio massacre.

Custom Level Editor: Design custom levels using characters, enemies, weapons and music tracks from the game and share your creations with others online via Steam Workshop. [COMING SOON]
