Here is a brief analysis of the Atalanta squad, their club structure, relationship any potential managers will have with the board, expectations and possible tactics any FM21 manager can use.

To Summarize, Atalanta are a very exciting club to manage for many FM Managers with a lot of challenges. Will you be able to hold on to your young stars and build an empire with the club?

About the club
Atalanta are a professional football club that ply their trade in Serie A . Interestingly, the club was founded by a few students and their teacher at a gym in Bergamo. Atalanta are referred to as the queen of the provincial clubs in Italy to mark the fact that they are one of the most consistent clubs that are not based out of a regional capital having played 59 out of their 88 seasons in the top flight of Italian football. Atalanta reached the UEFA Cup winners cup in 1988 while playing in the Serie B. This is the best performance by a non-first division club in any UEFA competition till date. They have also participated in the Europa League 4 times, reaching the quarterfinals once. They are a relatively small club though with a stadium capacity of just 21,000.

1. Alejandro Gomez
Papu Gomez is the captain and the best player of Atalanta. He is very versatile and can operate in multiple positions. His returns up front are crucial in securing results.
2. Duvan Zapata
Zapata is a massive aerial threat and is a beast of a striker. Having scored 43 goals in 70 league games Zapata has been clinical for Atalanta it is crucial you maintain his fitness to get favourable results.
3. Josip Ilicic
Ilicic is extremely versatile and is lethal in front of a goal. He also has the ability to create goals making him a key player for Atalanta.
4. Robin Gosens
The wingback popped up with remarkable 9 league goals last season and is an extreme threat in attack. His height and aerial prowess are an added advantage from set-pieces.

The youth and training facilities at Atalanta are really good, the youth recruitment is amongst the best in the game and you will learn to heavily rely on this to build a strong squad with Atalanta.

The transfer budget when you initially take over should not be too great considering that Atalanta have already spent on a couple of players and is a relatively smaller club with lesser ambitions. The club, however, has decent training facilities and a very famous youth academy that has produced international stars. You must really make use of this aspect if you wish to succeed with the club.
Weaknesses
1. The quality of backups in the squad may not be up to the quality and could prove fatal if your squad is affected by injuries.2. You run the risk of some talents being poached by other clubs especially in search of higher wages.
3. Being a relatively small club, the wage and transfer budgets are not in par with the other competitors making a top 4 finish very difficult to secure.

1. Davide Bettella
Bettella is one of the best wonderkid defenders in the game and he can go on to become the leader in defence for Atalanta in the future years.
2. Bosko Sutalo
Another promising centre back from the academy, Sutalo is already good enough to be a squad player for Atalanta and will only improve in the future.
3. Roberto Piccoli
Piccoli is a tall striker in the mould of Zapata and can take over from Zapata in the future. He has the potential ability to be even better than Zapata and can be a goal machine for Atalanta.
Gasperini's Atalanta tactic for Football manager 2020. Predicted to finish 7th and ended up in 2nd with the least amount of goals conceded.
The Tactic
Atalanta in the start of the game is predicted to finish in 7th and I manage to end up in 2nd.
So it's based on the current manager of Atalanta, Gasperini, and is a 532 on defense that turns into a 352 on attack.
First of all. a little tweak you can do.
- Your Pressing Forward can be an Advanced Forward or a Complete Forward on Attack , and your other striker can as well be a Complete Forward on Support or a False 9.
Your Key Attributes
Goalkeeper - can be a standard one, don't need nothing more than good shot stopping, command and good mental, he wont have many 1 on 1s so.
Defenders - all 3 must be tall (188 at least, 190 recommended), all with good heading and anticipation, the one in the middle should be really quick and the other too should have good passing.
Wing-Backs - crossing, work rate and stamina, technical can be average but mental and physical need to be good.
Carrileros - are basically 2 box to box so use 2 box to box but privilege the defensive attributes.
Playmaker - dribble, vision, passing, agility.
Forwards - Left Side deadly in front of the goal, Right Side more technical, but both quick (14 or 15 is enough)
YOU MUST HAVE 1 GOOD PLAYER IN FREE KICKS AND CORNERS, and he must take all free kicks and corners in order to make easier to your tall CBs to score.My Results
It was close to Juventus till January but then the lack of good backup players showed that we couldn't compete with them in the end of the season.[/color]

Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
Atalanta are generally a very attacking team and rely on outscoring opponents. They employ a high pressing fast-paced style of football in real life and it is best to mimic that in the game. A vertical tiki-taka is most suited for their squad of players.
A 3-4-2-1 is probably the best-suited formation to the available squad of players. This is incidentally how they line up in real life as well. This also helps them maintain the width and releasing the ball quickly to counter opponents.
A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 3-4-2-1 formation is as follows,

Pierluigi Gollini as a regular keeper.
Cristian Romero, Berat Djimsiti & Rafael Toloi as the 3 centre backs. Toloi & Djimsiti can be played as a Ball Playing Defenders.
Hans Hateboer & Robin Gosens as the 2 wing backs. Increased crossing instructions to take advantage of their attacking ability.
Marten De Roon & Remo Freuler as the 2 central midfielders, the former as a box to box midfielder and the latter as a ball-winning midfielder.
Alejandro Gomez as the attacking playmaker who needs to be given a completely free role & Josip Ilicic as an Attacking midfielder.
Duvan Zapata as a lone striker in an Advanced Forward role.
Alternatively, you can deploy a 4-3-3 and play Mario Pasalic as a roaming playmaker and play Papu Gomez as a winger.
Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
Atalanta are a team that generally like to play on the counter. They like playing a fast tempo game and release their wing-backs to create chances for their front men.
So a Fluid counter-attacking style of football is best suited to go with their strengths.
Alternatively, you can choose to go with Wing-play if you see fit.
A 3-4-1-2 is probably the best-suited formation to the available squad of players. This is incidentally how they line up in real life as well. This also helps them maintain the width and releasing the ball quickly to counter opponents.
