Pony made her reputation by her equine nickname and encyclopedic knowledge of makeup and beauty products. Before carving her success, Pony began her first makeup blog in 2008, on a website called 'Cyworld' where she catalogued various ranges of makeup tutorials, product reviews and outfit photos. In February 2015, she started her YouTube channel, not realising that it would thrive. Now, Pony is a top beauty YouTuber, a professional make-up artist, a businesswoman, an author of several best-selling books and a celebrity not just in Korea.

She's Very Conservative About Her Private Life

She's been known to like her privacy. Recently, she's been spotted on the streets of Seoul wearing a mask. In a Q&A video on YouTube, the mask was not to prevent herself from being recognised but rather to prevent people from taking her picture without her consent. With her ever rising fame, it's made clear she wants to keep her personal life separate. What we do know, is that she has an older brother, she's married, she is a vegetarian and she has two beloved cats - Knit and Noru.

She Used To Be A Graphic Designer

In an interview with Soompi, a Korean pop culture website, Pony explained that she went to university to become a graphic designer since she had always had a passion for drawing. After university, she worked in office for a time but was never truly devoted to it.

While working as a graphic designer, Pony was approached by a publishing company to produce a makeup book. She's written and published a total of four books about beauty, however they are only available in Korean. The books do contain a bunch of gorgeous, glossy images that are sute to provide makeup inspiration for anyone who lays eyes upon them.

She Has Her Own MakeUp Line

Pony partnered up with Memebox to create her own line. Memebox is a subscription box company that focuses on curating Korean beauty products and cosmetics. Her first products included eyeshadow palettes, dewy lipsticks and bright, eccentric nail polishes. The Memebox x Pony Makeup line was so successful that Pony began striking it out on her own. Her independent makeup line is called "Pony Effect". Her Pony products have been featured numerous times in the boxes from JoahBox.

She Has A Towering Number Of International Fans

Though being a native South Korean, she's very conscious of her overseas fans. With this in her mind, she tries to create Western makeup tutorials that will be of interest and relevance in their lives. One of her most famoud amoung these tutorials is her hijab makeup tutorial. She's even able to transform herself into Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner!

YES! Of course you should, she's such a character and sweet artist. Even if you don't like her, her tutorials are still very good and easy to follow and also inspirational. As a 26 year old woman, Pony is exceptionally gifted and naturally beautiful.

Career

The name "Pony" came from her nickname at school, which she has used as her online name since. Having enjoyed drawing since childhood, Pony kept a blog on Cyworld and also began practicing make-up looks while she was a third-year high school student. She began posting video tutorials at the request of other users, which were positively received. Pony went to university to become a graphic designer and later worked at an office. In 2010, she was approached by a publisher to write a series of books on make-up tips, which were later released in 2011, 2012, and 2014 in Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, China, and Japan. She eventually quit her job to pursue make-up full-time. For a while, she also worked as make-up artist for singer CL.

After launching her YouTube channel, Pony Syndrome, in 2015, Pony gained over 4,400,000 subscribers in 2018. This has been helped by her providing English subtitles to her videos and focusing on a diverse range of make-up looks for a global audience. In addition to posting make-up looks, Pony also created tutorials for celebrity transformations. In 2015, Pony launched her make-up brand, Pony Effect, through the Korean beauty retailer Memebox.

Family Life

She is a native South Korean and would later reside in Los Angeles, California.
