So, my C drive has limited space. I always download everything onto my D drive because it has 100X the space. But with medieval dynasty, all my save files go to my C, making it almost full now. This hasn't happened with any other games. Also, even though I downloaded steam onto D drive, it still made a folder on C that is 335MB.

My question is, can I safely move these folders and files to my D drive without breaking something? I only have around 10% free space right now on C. If I move the folder containing saves, will they then always go where I want them?

If this is a dumb question, just know I'm not very techy.

I would just go and try it without asking, but I'm afraid of making those save files inoperable and having to start from scratch.

There is a method for Windows to change the savegame location. I use it for all my games who not save it in the documents folder and change it to the documents folder. So all saves at one place, better for backups.

Hi Daiska. I'm not a tech either, but the devs do have a tech section on their Discord and I think I saw something about save file locations and stuff there (but I'm old and my memory works about as well as crafting NPCs). This is the invite:

Yes & No dependent on OS \ cloud saves. You are more likely to cause issues with many saved games & other programs reliant on location.
If it was me, i would backup any files from C: drive you want to keep & get a larger C: drive.

So you can play from somewhere in those number of save game, excluding Autosave and Quicksave.

- Every time you press F5, it will replace the Quicksave.
It is recommend to create a new save at one point of the game, so if things go wrong you are not too far from it.

* Recommend always use manual save, and load.

* Do not rely on Autosave.

* Autosave occurred when:
- You going to sleep.
- Stay overnight until morning.
- The season changed.

* Your maximum save file are numbered from Save000 until Save099.
* If you want to backup your save game, here's the location dir:

For example:
Your computer name is Jones.
Where you login your computer when it ask for a password, or when you logout.
Another word is Windows Account Name.

So, this is what it should be.

* Search in your Taskbar:

Inside there is a folder name: Saved.

There is SaveGames folder as well, the way I backup is just copy the Saved folder, to somewhere else, so I can revert back if I need to.

Also, if you open the SaveGame folder, that's your save game located, numbered from Save000 to Save099, 100 save game in total.

Just becareful when you revert back, you know which file which.

Save game_Patch version_The number of backup in incremental.

The issue probably starts with appdata being inconvenient to access compared to documents.
Before, games at least used User/documents, I have no idea what caused the "recent" trend of putting save files into a hidden folder, and no dev ever told us why either lol. I would agree on that, that's why I've trying to help to find for those who having a hard time to get into their save game. If you don't mind me asking if your C drive is smaller than 500GB/1TB, maybe better upgrade it into higher space? So in the future you will get less headache.

To backup, you just copy the Saved folder like I give an example above to any drive, in your case is drive D.

Then you can safe to delete what you don't need from the SaveGame folder.

Also, try to not mix Steam (or any game files) into program files, which normally located in C drive.

I had 1 SSD 850 Pro 500GB C drive just for program files, and maybe some others just in case I need the space.

The other is 1 SSD 850 Pro 1TB just for Games file. I've had a very, very bad experience, if my C drive is problematic all my games and save games need to be reinstall and play from start, so it's a really, really big issue for me.

I followed the procedure for copying old saves. why?? The game still tells me something like "Using old save file, some things in the game may not work properly." So why save old files in another location and put them back in the Save File? I guess it's only useful for a re-install of the game?
Playing the full release, do I need to just start a new game?

The devs suggest that you might want to have a backup copy of your old saves somewhere separate, so that if you load into the save and find that the update borked something major, you have the option to uninstall the current version of the game, reinstall the legacy beta version, and restore your un-updated save to keep playing it.

All of the new buildings and crafting items seem to work fine for legacy saves, so if you don't care about the new storyline you don't need to restart. If you do want to see the new storyline, you have to restart.
