We've had some reports of users that have been experiencing controller issues when using Steam's Remote Play feature with Battleblock Theater. This is unfortunate and is apparently a problem that many other titles on Steam are dealing with since Remote Play went live.
This feature has been entirely implemented by Valve, so you may have more success troubleshooting by taking a look at their FAQs or by seeking assistance on the Remote Play forums!

Are you looking into the issues with the game not accepting input from remote play controllers?
All controllers work in Big Picture Mode and are configurable, they also work in some (not all) other games which suggests it a game by game implementation issue.

Would be good to know it's being investigated for both this & Castle Crashers as I'd like to be able to play both games whilst in lockdown.

Me and my friend had the same problem but I think I know the solution. Just make sure to follow the steps correctly or it won't show up.

Remote play means you control the same character (I think). In other works the other person is playing your game remoetly. When I tried it we both shared a mouse and guy. If you are trying to play together, one of you in the game needs to go to online in the main menu.

Hit "host game" then go to "friends only". Select the game mode you want and then it should take you to your character setup, then a lobby with hatty holding strings up to your guy. You will then need to hit "Shift" and "Tab" simultaniously (sorry I spelled that wrong). If you are using a controller I'm pretty sure you still have to use the keyboard for this.

That will bring up your friends list. Right click on the friend you want to play with, and hit "invite to game". (It should be like half way down). They might have to be in game on the menu for the invite to work. That should bring them into the Hatty lobby and then both of you must hit space bar (A) on controller.

well, for me it worked, this is what I did:

1. start castle crashers (or another game that recognize other gamepads)
2. invite my friends to castle crashers (they need to acept the invitation)
3. wait till all friends are inside castle crashers
4. Alt+Tab
5. start battleblock
6. close castle crashers (do not end the invitation of play together)
7. Alt+Tab to battleblock and then invite again my friends

if I do that, it works for me.

Запустите игру, в которой есть локальный мультиплеер (см. Разделенный экран и Общий экран).

Remote Play Together поддерживает кооператив от двух до четырех игроков, хотя Valve утверждает, что сервис потенциально может выдержать и больше. Подключившиеся игроки не увидят ваш рабочий стол и папки.

Единственное вмешательство в вашу частную жизнь – Steam симулирует, будто другой игрок подключил к вашему компьютеру свой игровой контроллер. Если это мышка и клавиатура, то можно настроить ограничения для курсора и клавиш.

Кооперативная версия Remote Play Together работает на PC, Mac и Linux и доступна с 21 октября 2019 года при поддержке передачи потока между платформами.

Театральный мир игры BattleBlock не даст вам повернуть назад в стремительных приключениях, связанных с освобождением друзей от нового зла - технологических кошек. История о плене, предательстве, наполненная загадками и шутками растянется более чем на сотню уровней.

Вас ждут несколько глав, разбитых на множество уровней. Каждая карта представляет собой нечто вроде театральной сцены, где нужно пройти через препятствия и найти выход. Кубы игровых уровней имеют самые различные свойства: какие-то разрушаются при касании, какие-то являются раскаленными углями, а некоторые помогут очень высоко прыгнуть или угодить в ловушку. Плюс всякие кубики-телепорты, гравитационные кубы, кубики с водой, ветром, с лазерными лучами. в общем, около 20 видов поверхностей, что соответствует жанру аркада-платформер.

Есть множество уровней специально для совместной игры (локально или онлайн), а также соревновательные арены (8 режимов мультиплеера). В Battleblock Theater также встроен редактор уровней, так что можно создавать свои неповторимы испытания или участвовать в проектах других людей.

Что такое Remote Play Together? Фактически, это симуляция локального кооператива с удаленным доступом к игре. Это означает, что купить игру должен только хост, то есть игрок, который мутит всю движуху и кидает приглашения друзьям.

Доступ к игре поддерживается через Remote Play для ПК, с помощью чата и даже через мобильное приложение Steam Link.

Остальным игрокам игру не надо ни покупать, ни устанавливать. А вот свечку поставить покровителю интернетов за низкую задержку на трансляции игры не помешает – вам понадобится соединение около 10-20 Мбит/с для приемлемой игры.
