note: as of version 1.23 you still seem to be able to put points into UMD despite it being a "Prohibited Skill" where-as perform cannot have any points put in at all. And in fact, characters who don't have UMD as a class skill can make use of the skill now.
Italics = Training Required.

means You MUST place at least (1) one Skill Point During the skill point distribution or this skill will NOT activate.

Adventurers seek gold, glory, justice, fame, power, knowledge, or maybe some other goals—perhaps noble or perhaps base. Each chooses a different way to attain those goals, from brutal combat power, to mighty magic, to subtle skills. Some adventurers prevail and grow in experience, wealth, and power. Others die.

A class is one of the fifteen player character types -- barbarian, bard, cleric, druid, favored soul, fighter, monk, paladin, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, spirit shaman, swashbuckler, warlock or wizard. Class defines a character's predominant talents and general function within an adventuring party. Character class may also refer to a nonplayer character class or a prestige class.

Class determines what a character is able to do: combat prowess, magical ability, skills, and more. Class is probably the first choice made about a character -— just ahead of race, or perhaps in conjunction with that decision. The class chosen determines where a character should best place ability scores and suggests which races are best to support that class choice.

Base classes [ ]

A base class is a class that may be chosen at level 1 (as opposed to a prestige class).

The following 15 base classes are included in NWN2 (two added with Mask of the Betrayer, one with Storm of Zehir).

Combat Classes [ ]

(Brb): A ferocious warrior guided by fury and instinct. (F): A warrior with unequaled skill with weapons. (M): A martial artist and master of exotic powers. (Pal): A champion of justice, strengthened by an array of divine powers. (Ra): A cunning, skilled warrior of the wilderness. (Ro): A skillful scout and spy who utilizes stealth. (SB): A Dexterity/Finesse based Melee Fighter. (SoZ)

Spellcasting Classes [ ]

(Brd): A performer and jack-of-all trades whose music works magic. (C): A master of divine magic and a capable warrior as well. (D): One who draws energy from the natural world. (FS): A disciple chosen by their patron deity. (MotB) (Sor): A spellcaster with inborn magical ability. (SS): A mystic that interacts with the spirit world. Epic Levels [ ]

Characters in Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer can reach a maximum character level of 30. Levels 21 through 30 are considered epic levels and unlock access to more powerful feats and other benefits. While prestige class maximum levels are the same as in NWN2 (3, 5 or 10, depending upon the class), characters can advance up to level 30 in any base class. If a character has multiple classes, it is their total level that determines whether they are an epic character. See the individual base class description pages for a description of the specific benefits for reaching levels 21 through 30 in each of the base classes.

The following benefits apply to all epic level characters, regardless of class level:

Prestige classes [ ]

A prestige class can only be chosen once certain prerequisites have been met. These classes are limited to 5 or 10 levels (rather than 20 like base classes) and do not have epic progression (save epic bonus feats).

For example, consider a Human Cleric, an Aasimar Paladin, a Drow Wizard, and a Deep gnome Rogue. When the Human Cleric reaches 5th level, the Aasimar Paladin will be 4th level, the Drow Wizard will be 3rd level, and the Deep gnome Rogue will just be obtaining level 2, each with exactly 10,000 experience points.

* This is the maximum possible experience points that a character may have in NWN2 without the Mask of the Betrayer expansion. Even non-ECL (effective character level) characters may obtain this amount of experience points. However, the level cap of 20 still remains in place.

  • Class Skill Max Ranks CAP = CharacterLevel + 3.
  • Cross-Class Skill Max Ranks CAP = ([CharacterLevel / 2] Rounded up) + 1
  • Feat gain for levels 1-20 = (CharacterLevel / 3) + 1
  • Feat gain for levels 20-30 = ((CharacterLevel - 20) / 2) Rounded Up
  • Ability point gain = CharacterLevel / 4
  • Required Experience = CharacterLevel * (CharacterLevel – 1) * 500
  • Each level requires an added CharacterLevel * 1000
