Многим из вас знакомо имя Гоити Суды, или же, никнейм, под которым японский разработчик более известен в индустрии — Suda 51. Многим также знакомы такие популярные проекты как Killer 7, No More Heroes, Killer is Dead, благодаря которым гейм-дизайнер неоднократно получал признание своих талантов общественностью. Но далеко не все знают о том, что г-н Суда далеко не всегда занимался созданием ураганных экшенов с безумным дизайном, и, пожалуй, о The Silver Case — самой первой игре студии Grasshopper Manufacture, вышедшей ещё в далёком 1999 году на PlayStation One, и долго не покидающей пределы Страны восходящего солнца, слышали лишь самые преданные фанаты. Не так давно и до PlayStation 4 добралось HD-переиздание детектива, на которое мы и обратим наше сегодняшнее внимание.
Действие разворачивается в конце 90-х годов, в мире, практически не отличимым от нашего, и находящегося на грани технологической революции. Местом действия выступает вымышленный Японский город под названием 24 Wards. Сюжет в игре стартует довольно спонтанно: в городе уже довольно давно орудует серийный убийца Камуи Уэхара, и специально для поимки таких-вот недоброжелательных граждан был сформирован отряд, от лица члена которого мы, собственно, и будет наблюдать первые несколько минут истории, после чего игра предложит разделить основной сценарий на двое. «Transmitter» и «Placebo», именно так называются исторические ветки, предложат игроку различный игровой опыт, и разносторонний взгляд на основную историю со стороны нескольких персонажей.
Вне зависимости от вашего выбора, Камуи суждено быть пойманным и помещенным в специальную психиатрическую лечебницу, однако убийства на этом не прекратятся, и более того, даже почерк преступления будет походить на задержанного, что и заставит главных действующих лиц задаться тонной вопросов, ответы на которые вам и предстоит отыскать.
Первая историческая ветка «Transmitter» позволит взглянуть на дело со стороны всё того же сотрудника специального отряда High-Degree Murder Division, о котором я упоминал ранее. Данный сценарий менее сосредоточен на повествовании, так как тут даже с трудом и весьма поверхностно раскрывается личность главного героя (имя которому вы придумываете сами), что для данного жанра не является самым лучшим показателем. Однако, в этом сценарии вам чаще придётся прибегать к так называемому «активному геймплею», решая всякого рода головоломки и паззлы.
В «Transmitter» игра скорее раскрывается как point'n'click-адвенчура, чем визуальная новелла, однако, диалогов тут не меньше чем в «Placebo», который предлагает игроку принять позицию журналиста-фрилансера Токио Морисимы, занимающегося статьёй на тему деятельности Камуи Уэхары. Тут львиная доля игрового процесса будет происходить именно по всем канонам VN-жанра, с изредким отвлечением до геймплея, в привычном его понимании.
Вообще с жанровым самоопределением у The Silver Case имеются проблемы, так как обе ветки действительно играются по разному, поэтому сложно сказать, визуальная ли это новелла, или всё же point'n'click-адвенчура (или по-нашему «квест»), в процентно-временном соотношении наверное первое. Стоит ли упоминать о том, что даже разработкой сценария занимались разные люди: первую делал сам Гоити Суда, когда второй занимался Масахи Оока. К слову, в HD-переиздании он же добавил две дополнительные пост-гейм главы под названием «Yami» и «Whiteout Prologue». Они открываются после прохождения игры.
А вот за что стоит поругать разработчиков, так это за то, что они совсем, кажется, не задумывались о том, что оставлять схему управления в игре 1999 года и переносить её в неизменном виде в ремастер будет не самой лучшей идеей. Действительно, привыкнуть к местной системе управления персонажем — та ещё задача, в связи с чем прохождение «Transmitter'а» на первых порах может обернуться самой настоящей истерикой. Не стали и изменять интерфейс, навигация в нём осталась такая же примитивная, ровно как и в оригинальной игре. Зато звуки и музыка в игре были полностью переработаны, и текстуры изрядно похорошели и «подтянулись», хотя, опять же, сами модели объектов изменений не претерпели. В остальном никакого нового контента тут можно не искать, за исключением вышеупомянутых двух сюжетных глав.
The Silver Case — довольно выдающийся проект, особенно если вы никогда не играли в оригинал. Он совсем не похож на большинство работ Grasshopper Manufacture и на сегодняшний день ему, возможно, не хватает некой жанровой свежести. Кроме того, при упоминании «Suda 51» ожидаешь немного другого, а The Silver Case игра мрачная, нуарная, серьёзная, и отличившаяся крайне неоднозначным и притягательным повествованием, наложенным на не самую оригинальную историю и грамотно проработанными действующими лицами. Наверное именно последние факторы и делают этот проект интересным и по сей день.

Kamui Uehara
A dyed-in-the-wool psychopath who gained the title of “the King of Crime” after stabbing a government official to death. Kamui’s motive is completely shrouded in mystery, and it is not known whether he’s acting alone or following orders from some higher power. His victims are major witnesses of suspicious industrial disasters and persons of interest in legal cases which cannot be tried under the current system.
Sumio Kodai
A straight-laced, mid-level investigator in the 24 Wards Heinous Crimes Unit. Relatively quiet and subdued, he provides a perfect contrast to his partner Kusabi, the more rough-around-the-edges of the pair.
Tetsugoro Kusabi
Sumio’s partner, and a grizzled veteran investigator. Back in his regional agent days, he headed the original Silver Case 20 years prior.
Chizuru Hachisuka
A beautiful and level-headed investigator who relies on scientific evidence and raw data to solve crimes.
Kiyoshi Morikawa
Calm and collected, Morikawa is a talented investigator who has worked with Kusabi since their days as regional agents. One of the founding members of the Heinous Crimes Unit.
Morichika Nakategawa
Originally a member of the Public Security Department, Nakategawa has connections in all of the surrounding jurisdictions and is plays a vital role in interdepartmental communications. Rather than going out into the field to investigate crime scenes directly, Nakategawa’s main focus lies in directing investigations from HQ.
