I got red dead 2 through steam, was unable to even launch the game. After vigorous researching I was able to resolve my problem. I wanted to share what I learned with other so they do not have have the same issues.

Issue 1. instance of red dead 2 already running
Find your Steam.exe and RockstarLauncher.exe, PlayRDR2.exe(in steam apps folder), RDR2.exe()
right click the applications
enable Run this game as administrator
go to search bar at the bottom
Type "Windows Defender Firewall"
on top left click "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall"
This might be overkill but I essential added every application that involved with running read dead 2. such as ( RockStar Game launcher, Rock Star Game Social Club, RockStar Game Launcher re director, Red Dead Redemption 2)
the RockStar related applications can be found in
a. C:Program Files(x86)\RockStar Games\Social Club\
Additionally, if all steps above did not work
go to Documents/RockStar Games
Delete this folder, you will be required to re-login when you open RockStar Launcher.
Issue 2: Social club error 1014 (this comes up after the game is able to launch)
go to search bar
type "Ransomware Protection"
click "Allow an app through controlled folder access"
click "Recently Blocked Apps"
Add any file that pops up regarding the social club
For myself I added the following
a. C:\Programfiles(x86)\RockStar Games\ Social Club
b. C:\Programfiles\RockStar Games\ Launcher
c. C:\Programfiles\RockStar Games\ Social Club
d. D:\Steam Library(name i name)\ steamapps\ common \ Red Dead Redemption 2 (both versions of exe)
Other things that may work:
try launching the game from either steam and rock star game launcher after all the steps above have been taken
Update Bios(i did not have to do this but this might make the game work for you)
I hope this helps, I hated going through this process but I am glad I got my games to work.
i have a social club error 1014 problem. Social CLub could not be started and i am forwarded to online help page when touching enter.
Nvidia Driver is the actual one. I also deleted the social club folders and Rockstar Games Launcher installed them again.
But still same problem.
Any ideas how to fix it?

I had the same error. Disabled Windows Antivirus "Real Time Protection" and also my Acronis "Active Protection" and that did the trick. Good luck!

Windows Antivirus Real Time Protection was my issue. Thank you. I spent like an hour troubleshooting for it before finding this reddit post.

Didnt work for me, social club error 1014, incompatible installation. the problem is i must have uninstalled it and reinstalled it a million times, no idea what to do

If when starting GTA V you get an error 1014 from Social Club, uninstall Rockstar Games Launcher and Rockstar Games Social Club.
Remove their files in Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders. Type Windows + R, and then type regedit.
On the registry search for Rockstar Games, and delete all entries that contains Launcher or Social Club.
That should fix the issue (it did for me).

Problem is either your end(this includes steam itself), your ISP, or something else between you and R*. By far - most social club problems are fixable on the users' end. Under some circumstances, they can be geographical and per usual. if that is the case - more will loudly spam post through the day. Other times. issues are simply temporary setbacks.
I'd suggest letting me teamviewer and look - but if you did it ALL. I don't need to.
(though, by doing ALL - it allows for the idea of checking/testing more obscure fixes once the common/typical/usual/annoying issues are ensured to be in correct functional order -.-)

@Molinaro - And waste another 1 month waiting? To lose another month of playtime? To lose more love? Hoping that R* patches/debugs what is most likely a problem on your system? Possibly even NOT related AT ALL to gtav/socialclub? Yep - that happens. Drivers, OS updates, directx/vcredist, other games/installs, background apps have all interfered before.
Seriously though, offer is still on the table for me to teamviewer and doublecheck everything if you CBA'd to do the ENTIRE link I posted - NOT just the things in my first post here. Your call.
(though, I'm going on my run now so - it would have to be later
