Uninstall EU4 as normal.

Go to your steamapps/common/ folder and delete the EU4 folder if it's still there.

Go to your documents/paradox interactive folder and delete that EU4 folder too (your saves are also kept here so back them up if you want).

reinstall the game through steam as normal.

This ensures that there's no files of the previous installation left over that might be causing your issue.

Uninstalling a game doesn't always remove everything, especially stuff that isn't supposed to be there, such as modded content or corrupted files that the uninstaller didn't recognize.

Okay, I did it, uninstalled the game, deleted all my files, even my saved games (didn't really care about them), and then reinstalled the game. Ironman still doesn't work.

EDIT: And I got rid of them from the recycling bin as well, every EUIV file I have now is new.

Mmm, if a clean install doesnt work, something is messing

The most probable is the anti virus, so make an exception rule for EU4 (or disable the AV, but i wouldnt really recommand that)

Also, kill any cheaty program if you have one running (stuff like cheat engine. )

Kill any task in the background that is not stricktly required, perhaps one is messing, aka, try to run the computer as clean as possible (system, AV, firewall, steam, game, nothing else)

Be sure to run in admin mode, who knows, some strange things can happen in non admin mode

I don't have anything else running apart from Steam. I do have an anti-virus, but I got it after I got EUIV (and Ironman stopped working). What's admin mode? 15 окт. 2017 в 8:17

Admin mode is the mode for computer giving you full rights over any file on the computer
Delete, modify etc.
Otherwise, those rights are restricted, mostly to read only (good to protect the computer from bad usage, but bad to really manage it)

Having the game (and Steam) runs and install in admin mode let it modify files freely
On non admin mode, the game could be automaically denied the right to change / update a required file.
Can lead to problems with some games

Not saying it will fix your problem, but it has for me in the past for some problematic games

Of course, almost forgot. for ironman
Has to be normal difficulty at least, hard and VH are ok, not easy
All default settings for AI, lucky nations. etc

And be sure to let the game calculate checksum first before launching ironman
7645 for this version
If it is not 7645, then you havent the good checksum (1+ file altered) and no ironman is possible

Also, just in case, english version, not a localized one

/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/save games/ (MacOS)

/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/save games/

Если выбрать сохранение в Steam Cloud, то файлы сохранений всегда будут сжаты и загружены на сервера Steam. Их резервная копия также сохраняется локально на вашем компьютере по пути:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<ВАШ STEAM ID>\236850\remote\save games

Для пользователей Mac:

/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/<ВАШ STEAM ID>/236850/remote/save games

Необходимые условия

Синхронизация со Steam Cloud должна быть включена для игры в библиотеке Steam (клик правой кнопкой мыши по Europa Universalis IV, кликнуть на Свойства, кликнуть на вкладку Обновления) и в настройках Steam (Steam->Настройки, кликнуть на вкладку Cloud).

Проблемы

Так как при игре в режиме "Ironman" автоматическое сохранение происходит каждый игровой месяц, на высоких скоростях игра может часто зависать на несколько секунд при сохранении. Локальное сохранение выполняется быстрее, чем сохранение в Steam Cloud, поскольку при сохранении его не нужно сжимать, но вам также нужно будет поместить папку «Мои документы» на высокоскоростное устройство хранения. Ограничения
