The Sims™ 2: Super Collection does not support hard drive volumes formatted as Mac OS Extended (CaseSensitive)

I am attempting to install custom content for the Sims 2 on my MacBook. The game, newly installed, runs perfectly. I used to play the Sims 2 on my PC, and when I downloaded custom content all I had to do was double click on the file I downloaded and a blue window would pop up where I'd select "install content", and if successful, it would automatically show up in my game. However, now that I have a new MAC, it never gives me that option. I created a "Downloads" folder in my EA Games/Sims 2 folder. When I download a file, typically a rar or sims2pack, I place it in that folder. However, when I click on the downloaded file, nothing happens. I even downloaded an app to "extract" the rar or sims2pack files and when I double click on them it STILL doesn't do anything. It's as if my game doesn't recognize that the files are there at all. I have definitely checked to make sure that the "enable custom content" button is turned "on" in the game settings. HELP! What am I missing? I'm so confused.

@cincygal419 , you need to install the Package Installer before you can add CC to your Sims 2 game. When you launch Sims 2 Super Collection, you should see an option to download Body Shop and Package Installer. Click on the Download button and it should allow you to download and install the programs. Then, when you click on the Sims2pack file, it should automatically launch Package installer.

Please respond back.

@mattyedge696 , when you download CC for Sims 2, the CC (unless otherwise noted by the creator) should show as the following formats ("CC name.sims2pack" or "CC name.package"). When you have the Aspyr Package Installer program loaded make sure it points directly to your Downloads folder in your Sims 2 folder. The Sims 2 files for the Mac are hidden in your Library folder instead of in the Documents folder.

To find your Library folder, click on your Desktop, find the "Go" command at the top in the Finder, hold your cursor button over Go and press the Option key on your keyboard and Library will show when you do that. Scroll through the Library folders until you find one called "com.aspyr.sims2.appstore" and open the folder. You should see two files in there and open the Data File. From there, locate another file named "Library" and then in that file you should should find another Aspyr folder which when opened will reveal the Sims 2 folder (exactly like the original game and on the Windows side). From there check to see if you have a folder named "Downloads" and if you do not, simply create one. This is where all your CC and Mods will be stored.

My advice is to organize your CC into categories within this folder once you get it up and running.

If your CC has the ".sims2pack" extension, you will have to use the Package Installer to "uncompress" the file to now show the ".Package" extension. All CC in the game must have the ".package" extension to run.

I have this issue too and I just updated to Big Sur 11.1. My game crashes as soon as a lot loads. Like I get a one-millisecond glance of the lot and then it crashes. I've submitted two tickets to Aspyr support and I haven't heard anything back.

I've tried changing all the camera/graphics settings, I've tried different lots, different neighborhoods, removing custom content -- nothing works. It's weird because my game definitely starts up faster, and I get to the neighborhood screen much faster, than it used to on my old MacBook. So it's not like the computer can't handle the game. It's something about loading lots (for me, anyway).

PLEASE HELP this is so devastating.

FYI the current version of BigSur is 11.0.1 on M1 / Darwin ARM64 (non-beta - the latest beta is 11.2).

If you are on the beta branch for MacOS, I can tell you from experience that you can run into some minor to even major issues with apps and general OS functions (OS bugs - it's on beta for a reason!), so if you want to make sure stuff runs, highly advise to stay on non-beta (you can opt-out of beta but you will stay on beta until a new non-beta AKA release version is available).

Although you could, given you have enough disk space available, or get / use an external flash-drive / stick or disk, resize / create a partition and install MacOS again, then switch that one (might need to create and use another icloud account, to separate your two installs - that's what I'd do, to be on the safe side) to the beta branch - that way, if things don't work out there, you can always boot back into your non-beta version of MacOS.

Ratings and Reviews

Buy this game, SO close to 5 stars

GET THIS GAME
This game actualy exceded my expectations. I have bought all maxis games, many hits and few misses. this version Knock it out of the park. i have the highest end customizable macbookpro that was available last march. I have done a side by side comparison with the MBP HighSIERRA MacOs (the new OSX) and my ASUS Video production pc with windows on with several drives and different versions win 7 dark, 8.2, and 10, even though the ASUS Has a HIGHER END GPU Card ( Nvidia Card) and 2 quad 64bit processers, my Quad 64bit 16GB Ram with a 500Gig flash drive and an AMD w/ 3GB of its own ram plus the built intel iris pro (the MBP) TOO MY AMAZEMENT RUNS SO MUCH BETTER, SO SMOOTH, LOADS SO FAST, IS SO MUCH FATER AND LOOKS TO MY amazement SO GREAT and Hugley better than it does on the ASUS republic of gamers machine. I was surprised Thrilled and enjoy it immensely THIS IS A MUST BUY, JUST MAKE SURE YOU MEET /EXCEDE THE MIN REQS.

THE ONLY AREA FOR IMPROVEMENT IS TO PROVIDE ALL THE EP’s and SP’s like APARTMENT LIFE, FREETIME, MANSIONS ETC. **I have all of those on my pc but I prefer the Look and Speed of the game In this version, I no longer am playing on my windows machines, Just my macs because it is so superior BUY IT you wont be sorry***
that said :
PLEASE ADD THE MISING EXPANSION PACKS AND STUFF PACKS, MacOs is obviously where these games belong and the lack of them is the ONLY REASON for Not giving 5 Stars

Im not quite sure if they've fixed the bugs.

It’s… meh.. I wouldn’t get it

Don’t get me wrong, when you first start, it looked like it was going to be a very fun game with a lot of replay value. But the (quite ironically) reccurring problem I’ve had with many Sims games is that they are extremely repetitive, and sometimes downright confusing or infuriating. I’m getting the Sims 4 soon, and I hope it’s not as repetitive. After a while, some tasks become more of a burden or a chore rather than a fun experience, such as keeping vampire Sims alive. Yes, I have tried everything, and no, nothing seems to work. I wouldn’t buy it again, mostly because I had to wait about three hours for the download. Normally you’d have to wait an hour and a half, but still, I wouldn’t take an hour out of my day for this. The redeeming qualities of this game are there, but they’re just overshadowed by the amount of bad qualities. I was also dissapointed that there was no story mode as well. Story mode was a very fun asset of the individual games, and I was hoping that would be added. Overall, this game has left a bad taste in my mouth, as do most games on my Mac, my advice? Just get a game on another system, you’ll definitely get way more enjoyment out of it.
