Mobility Mod Version 2 is out early!

What's New in Version 2:

  • Based on the Episode 2 Engine
  • Combines Half-Life 2, Episode 1, and Episode 2 into one mod (just keep scrolling on the chapter menu to get to the episodes)
  • New melee controls:
    • melee key for a quick crowbar attack
    • hold melee key and press secondary attack for a crowbar slash attack, which hits multiple targets and does more damage, but is slower
    • hold melee key and press primary attack for a rocket-boosted surge attack, which pushes you forward, hits as soon as the target is in range, and does a lot of damage.
    • Surge attack while in the air lets you fly a short time, or change direction. Surge attack while crouching will trigger a slide even if you weren't moving.
    • Like the airboat rockets, it regenerates ammo.
    • Hold secondary attack to target enemies, and release to fire rockets.
    • Press reload to lock all remaining rockets onto the last target.
    • Unlike the airboat rockets, press primary attack to target whatever is under the cursor, even if it's just a spot on the ground.
    • A nice side-effect of this system is that if you hit primary and secondary attack at the same time, it fires one rocket at whatever you're looking at, so it's like a quake-style rocket launcher.
    • Time-to-duck has been reduced, so sliding is much more responsive.
    • Console variable to lock direction while sliding, so you only slide in a straight line, no matter which way you're facing (set sv_slide_lock to 1)
    • Console variable to limit sliding, slide-jumping and wall-jumping to only boost you to sv_maxspeed. Normally these speed boosts are cumulative and not limited (set certain_restrictions to 1. I recommend this setting. It makes the game feel less crazy, and more consistent.)
    • artificial horizon (can be turned off or set to a custom opacity with cl_horizon console variable)
    • crosshair hit markers (diagonal lines. Can be turned off, set to a custom opacity with cl_hitmarkers, made bigger or smaller with cl_hitmarks_scale, faster or slower with cl_hitmarks_fadetime)
    • shotgun hit markers (circles showing hit pattern. Can be turned off or set to a custom opacity with cl_shotgun_hitmarks, can change the size of the circle with cl_shotgun_hitmarksize, can change the size of the pattern with cl_shotgun_hitmarkspread)
    • New grenade count display. In v1 there was a big row of grenade icons along the bottom, but that would clash with the vehicle locator display in ep2, plus it was a bit ugly.

    Returning from version 1:

    • Wall-running
    • Double-jumping
    • Power-sliding
    • Ledge-climbing
    • Grenade button, ability to cook grenades
    • Unlocked Field-of-View (In HL2 the max was 90)
    • Tutorial and mini-campaign (only a tiny change from version 1, so if you played through it already, you're not missing anything if you skip it)
    • Reduced bullet spread of automatic weapons while crouching and not sliding
    • Louder, bass-heavy bullet impacts on hits (possibly too much so)
    • Cheat modes - exploding bullets, extra enemies, floor lava (just damage over time when you're on the ground), Mario mode, tough citizens
    • A whole lot of console variables to customise just about every aspect of the mod. Want to slide longer? Wallrun faster (or slower)? Jump higher? It's all configurable. Look in ep2_mobility/cfg/mobility.cfg.

    Bugs Fixed:

    • driving the buggy over a cliff no longer crashes the game
    • fixed some near-clip problems when using high field-of-view
    • fixed mysterious rising into the air (if you started climbing, then turned away so that there was no space to move into, you would just keep climbing)
    • fixed voice lines in the tutorial being counted as music, and controlled by the music volume slider

    Please make sure you read the install guide. Let me know if you have any problems.

    But also let me know if you don't have problems. I love seeing people stream the game, or putting gameplay on youtube.

    P.S. No it can't be compatible with MMod, sorry. It's a technical limitation, not a decision. I've been experimenting with other campaign mods, like Mission: Improbable and Dangerous World. I might have more to say about that another time. For now, enjoy the mod!

    Curious when V3 might be released, like if there is at least a year and a month that we can maybe expect it to drop in. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't such yet due to complications but. Hey, if you do have an idea of when V3 will be released, that'll be nice.

    Also as a random side question. Perhaps in V3, will we get more weapons? Perhaps something like the ability to take certain weapons from around the maps? Like say the AR3, which would be the mounted rifle like that of which is first encountered in the canals early on. Perhaps even the gun off of the Airboat and Jeep? Would be similar to MMod yeah but. would be cool. (also would be neat to get the sniper rifles from combine snipers since. it'd only make sense that their weapons would drop upon killing them and making them explode out of the windows they are in.) But yeah, tbh this sort of "request" of sorts isn't necessarily something I'd consider to be like a major request or whatever, just a random question if it'd be possible to potentially add such. (Also the sniper rifle would have to be gotten from somewhere for the view model and it's ingame world model. Which I think HL2:E2 would be perfect for that since if I'm not mistaken, you see one during the part to get the jalopy from across the bridge.)

    No, you would need to modify the mmod source code, which hasn't been released as far as I know.

    i think you should make a version of mobility mod v2 that is only ep2 or a build with both hl2 and ep2 while skipping ep1,im mainly saying this in regards for people like me who don't have the money to buy ep1 or just don't want to.

    I haven't tried, but I think it might be possible to run Mobility Mod without having ep1 installed. You wouldn't be able to play any ep1 maps, but if it runs you should be able play levels from the games you have installed. If you decide to try it, please let me know if it works.

    In theory it should work as long as you remove the dependency for Episode 1 from the file that says it's a dependency otherwise. However. I'd still say that the better option would be to get Episode one just incase since it probably has things that the mod needs in order to run even.

    Установка: понадобятся Steam, загруженные Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two и инструментарий Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer. Последний находится в вашей библиотеке Steam в разделе «Инструменты». SDK нужно перевести в бета-версию upcoming в меню свойств.

    Короче, я давно хотел сыграть в разные модификации для Half-Life 2, но они все не работали на пиратке, и для их запуска нужен был или репак оригинальной стимовской игры, или сама игра купленная в стиме. Но после долгого гугления я всё же нашел метод запуска глобальных модификаций на пиратке Half-Life 2. В связи с чем хочу поделиться данными способами запуска с вами. Вдруг кому пригодится.

    ПРИМЕЧАНИЕ: Прежде чем опишу каждый из методов надо отметить, что нам для запуска модификаций нам понадобится именно та версия игры, где в папке есть оригинальный ярлык hl2.exe, при запуске которого запустится оригинальная Half-Life 2, без русской локализации. В противном случае, если ярлык hl2.exe, который в папке с игрой, не запускается, и при его запуске вылазит ошибка, то ни одну модификацию запустить не получится! Поэтому, прежде чем устанавливать любую модификацию, убедитесь что у вас в папке с игрой есть оригинальный и рабочий ярлык hl2.exe.

    Методы запуска модификаций:

    Метод 1: Создание копии ярлыка hl2.exe.

    Этот метод наверное всем известен, но я его всё равно решил описать. И всё что нам нужно сделать, это в папке с самой игрой создать копию оригинального ярлыка hl2.exe, а затем вписать название папки с модификацией в пути ярлыка. Для этого наводим курсор мыши на ярлык hl2.exe, щелкаем по нем правой кнопкой мыши и жмем на "Создать Ярлык", после чего у нас появится копия ярлыка hl2.exe под названием hl2.exe.lnk. Теперь щелкаем точно так же по ярлыку и заходим в его свойства. Там, в поле "Объект", после названия пути к оригинальному ярлыку Half-Life 2/hl2.exe отступаем пробелом один раз, ставим черточку и пишем слово game, после чего вписываем название папки с вашим модом. Например, если мы хотим установить тот же MMod этим способом, то копируем папку HL2MMod_HL2 из архива с модом в папку с вашей игрой, а затем, после того самого слова game, вписываем название папки HL2MMod_HL2. В итоге должно получиться так: -game HL2MMod_HL2. У меня полный путь в копии ярлыка в итоге выглядит так: "J:\Games\Half-Life 2\hl2.exe" -game HL2MMod_HL2. После проделанной манипуляции сохраняем все изменения и запускаем ярлык который мы с вами создали, чтобы начать играть с установленным модом.

    Метод 2: Создание bat файла.

    Второй же метод запуска модификаций немного иной. Здесь мы просто создаем bat файл, в котором прописываем нужные функции запуска игры с нужным глобальным модом для Half-Life 2, через который и будем запускать игру. Для этого в папке с игрой создаем текстовый документ в формате txt и открываем его любым текстовым редактором, будь-то NotePad или WordPad. После чего в этом документе вписываем следующие строки, на примере всё того же MMod'а для HL2: hl2.exe -game HL2MMod_HL2. Затем сохраняем изменения и закрываем файл. После этого нам нужно изменить название расширения нашего файла с txt в bat. Для этого, я например, использую файловый менеджер Total Commander, через который я просто жму по созданному txt файлу правой кнопкой мыши и жму "Переименовать", после чего меняю название файла с txt на bat и жму Enter для сохранения изменений. В итоге мы создали bat файл, через который мы будем запускать Half-Life 2 с, например тем же самым MMod'ом и без стима.

    Есть ещё третий метод запуска модификаций, но он не касается глобальных модификаций которые переделывают игру целиком и полностью. Он касается маленьких модов, которые заменяют модели оружия, персонажей или определенных объектов. Но я всё равно опишу этот метод.

    Метод 3: Запуск маленьких модификаций.

    Ну и для запуска маленьких модификаций, например тех которые меняют модели оружия на новые, нам нужно скопировать их в папку Custom, которая должна находиться в вашей папке с игрой в папке hl2. Путь к этой папке выглядит так: Half-Life 2/hl2/. Если же этой папки Custom там нет, то создайте её вручную. После чего качаем любую мелкую модификацию, которая, например меняет модели оружия на новые, и засовываем её в папку Custom. После чего запускаем оригинальный ярлык hl2.exe и радуемся.

    Но важно отметить пару вещей, которые касаются данных мелких модификаций по замене моделей в игре.

    1. Скачанные модификации могут быть не в формате vpk а просто в папках: models, materials и sounds. И чтобы установить данные модификации то нам ничего в самой игре заменять НЕ НУЖНО! Нам нужно зайти в папку Custom и в ней создать новую папку с названием вашего мода. Например, если это мод который заменяет винтовку AR2 на M4A1, то создаем папку с названием M4A1 (AR2). Конечно название папки которую мы создаем может быть любое, но чтобы вы понимали какой вы мод установили, и что он заменяет, то лучше создавать папку, название которой ясно давало бы знать, что этот мод заменяет.

    2. То же самое касается и других мелких модификаций, которые заменяют модели персонажей, конкретных предметов и тому подобного. Мы точно так же заходим в папку Custom, и точно так же создаем папку с названием скачанного мода и пихаем туда файлы с архива со скачанным модом. Но это касается только файлов, которые НЕ в формате VPK. Если же они в формате VPK, то им никакие папки не нужно создавать. Просто кидаем скачанный мод в формате VPK в папку Custom и запускаем игру чтобы заценить мод. И всё!

    Но опять же, все эти методы работают только с оригинальным ярлыком hl2.exe, который не имеет в себе изменений и запускается без проблем. Поэтому имейте это ввиду!

    Такие вот методы запуска модификаций на не стимовской версии игры. Надеюсь что данные методы будут вам полезны и всем приятной игры!

    Mobility Mod Version 2 Install Guide

    Prerequisites

    • Steam installed
    • Half-Life 2, Episode 1, and Episode 2 installed in your primary steam library, inside where steam is installed. E.g., C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2. These should NOT be switched into any betas. Probably a good idea to launch these and make sure they run okay.
    • Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer installed in the same library, and switched into the 'Upcoming' beta on the betas tab
    • If you had to do anything to get to this point, probably a good idea to verify local content on anything you've changed.

    Installation

    • Exit steam using the menu: Steam->Exit
    • Download the ep2_mobility_v2.0.zip package
    • Scan it for viruses
    • Unzip the package into the sourcemods folder in your primary steam library, e.g. C:\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods
    • Make sure that it unzipped to the correct directory. You should see steamapps\sourcemods\ep2_mobility, and inside the ep2_mobility folder there should be a bunch of files and folders
    • Launch Steam. You should see Mobility Mod v2 in your steam library. Launch it
    • If it crashes to desktop after the Valve video, it probably means you missed a step with the prerequisites. Double check everything.

    Start Playing

    • Go into the options menu and configure keys for grenade, melee, toggle speedometer etc.
    • Go into Keyboard->Advanced and enable the developer console - you'll need it if you want to use lessclip or the new EGAR rocket launcher
    • Start a new game, pick a chapter. If you haven't played the mod's tutorial, that's a good place to start. If you have, you might want to play the new melee tutorial - it's very quick. You've got all the chapters from Half-Life 2, Episode 1, and Episode 2 available.
    • Have fun!

    If you don't see 'Mobility Mod v2' in your steam library, there's a few possibilities. Make sure the library is showing ALL, not just TOOLS etc. And it's on a windows pc.

    If it's definitely not there, then either the mod didn't get unzipped to the right place, or steam didn't get completely restarted.
    If you close steam with the x in the corner, it doesn't really exit - you have to go to the steam menu and click Exit.

    Steam needs to find a file called gameinfo.txt when it starts up. Check that when you unzipped the mod into the (wherever steam is)\steamapps\sourcemods folder, it got extracted to sourcemods\ep2_mobility, and that gameinfo.txt is in that folder. There can't be another folder like ep2_mobility_v2.0\ep2_mobility.

    That's about all I can think of. Hope this helps.

    Man, I'm an idiot, I figured out everything, it turns out that the folder in which I installed the games (D: \ SteamLibrary \ steamapps \ sourcemods) does not support mods, I tried to install them in their native way (C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ sourcemods) and I did it!

    The grenade cooking fuse is a little too long and can get you killed in a pickle with lots of enemies. Anyway to shorten it? This is a great mod anyway so keep up the amazing work!

    No way to change it (in this version, anyway). You can still shoot while cooking though. And it won't explode until you throw it, no matter how long you cook it.

    I just get the error 'unable to load surface prop file "scripts/surfaceproperties_ep2.txt" (referenced by manifest file "scripts/surfaceproperties_manifest.txt)' that causes it to crash on loading the menu. I've tried reinstalling it but to no avail

    I haven't seen this problem before. The file is one it should be able to find in your existing Episode 2 installation. Can you check if you have all the half-life 2 games, the source sdk base and the mod installed in your primary steam library? Also check that only the Source SDK Base is switched into a beta, none of the others. Try verifying local content and restarting steam. That's about all I can think of. Hope it helps.

    Found the solution if either of you were interested. Add this line:
    game+mod |all_source_engine_paths|ep2/ep2_pak.vpk

    to Mobilty Mod's gameinfo.txt

    Don't know if this is intentional or not, but if you quick swing the crowbar and hold +attack during or the couple milliseconds after, you'll start swinging it REALLY fast.
